Las cumbres del desprecio, Antimadre Parte 1 is the transvestite nightmare materialized as an RPG video game, which is plagued by witches, monsters, demons, queers, abusive and pathetic beings. As Roger Munoz Rivas’ first solo exhibition at General Expenses, the show revolves around the parody of a video game, retaking this format to show the artist’s narrative world, which consists of a terrifying but at the same time familiar universe, where humor points out political, social and sexual issues within human relations. This exhibition is the first part of a series of explorations of the artist around perversion, which is focused on the sinister archetype of the terrible mother or “anti-mother”, in relation to pop culture and art history.

Roger Muñoz uses grim humor as a critical tool to project and visualize narratives related to power, monstrosity, and decadence. His practice is developed mainly through a pictorial perspective that branches out to other media such as video, installation, and transvestite performance. Through these media, he stages narratives of death and cruelty, social archetypes, and mythological relationships to unveil social class tensions and power dynamics. His work intersects dark humor, goth culture, and horror subcultures, on the other hand, with orientalism and latin american pop culture, on the other.
