Creating a collection of bronze jewellery for giants. Oversize jewellery able to deprive the human gaze of its own original function. A brand – GMG (Gioielli-Mostri-Giganti) (in English, Jewellery-Monsters-Giants) – able to baffle those who look at the work. Who is it meant for?
Definitely not humans. They are, as we know them, a thing of the past. The history of jewellery begins with the history of man. Over the years jewellery has been given propitiatory meanings, it has been seen as a social identification tool or simply regarded as a collection of valuable objects. In brief, jewellery opens an endless range of scenarios. For example, in the Rap music world, pieces of jewellery are usually huge and overexposed, as a symbol of fame and popularity. Every piece of jewellery emphasizes success, making it seem even bigger than it is.
The GMG brand aims at creating a collection of jewellery for giants, starting from the rap world and drawing a parallel with a different reality populated by giants, where we find the same hyperbolic language/style and the same trends, led to an excess.
In The Book of Giants, giants are described as the children of rebel angels and common women. They taught humans how to carve metals as well as other crafts, thus disobeying the divine law.
In Greek mythology giants were monstrous and violent creatures. Their oversize dimensions are to be considered as a negative thing when taking into account established order and that’s why they are always depicted in the act of challenging it, both on their own and as a group. Giants are the enemies of estabished order. They are wild. They are violent. They represent the deepest impulses of man. Every one of us might hide a giant with unknown powers inside themselves.
