Floral Concepts
Good Weather at Vernon Gardens
w/ William Marcellus Armstrong, Anthony Campuzano, Matt Siegle
November 9, 2018 – January 6, 2019
Good Weather is excited to present Floral Concepts—an exhibition of work by William Marcellus Armstrong, Anthony Campuzano, and Matt Siegle at Vernon Gardens. Floral Concepts is a disquisition on looking: petals plucked from each artist’s practice reveal a laminated longing accentuated by infatuation, personal struggle, and disorientation. By unearthing the unidentified and obscure, each artist positions, marks, and traces their own body amid the world’s flotsam.
Their spirit is willingly exposed through compulsiveness and eccentricity (Campuzano), poetics and vulnerability (Armstrong), and a queerish lens of collection (Siegle). In Matt Siegle’s work, migratory paths and weather cycles serve as site lines for discovering Gestus with the natural. Marcellus Armstrong’s sculpture is a fluctuating barrier of ripped and repaired mosquito netting, and layered deco mesh: transparent materials that represent protection and celebrate a queer social fabric, respectively. Anthony Campuzano’s drawings venture inward with an obsessive and besotted attitude, memorializing the mysterious, marginal, and forgotten.
