The exhibition presents the work of Czech artist Markéta Jachimová through a spatial site-specific installation of objects telling her personal stories. Typographic shapes levitate in space as if they were floating on the surface of water. Tapestries with strange designs are hand-sewn by the artist from Molton fabric she recycles from art fair curtains. She also complements the objects with natural and ceramic elements and, more recently, works with polystyrene. The work with corrugated roofing again evokes the ripples of the dark water surface and refers to the artist’s childhood in the border region of the Bohemian Forest. The installation outlines a particular scene in a non-specific space on the shore of black waters. It presents material and abstract forms of the object and plays with the impression of deception and trust.
“My current work is in the spirit of “Organic Soul” and speaks to a certain emotional side of the artist, who reinterprets his personal events/experiences and contrasts them with the current, fast-paced times and its trends. In this thesis, I explore the relationships between materials, their associated associations and the formation of narratives. I draw inspiration from the places I come from, the surrounding nature, contemporary architecture, mythical stories and subcultural influences.”
“What seems at first glance like a harmonious melody of birdsong fades into a tangle of false noise over time.”
